Bernie's naivete on AI talking points has been deeply frustrating to watch for the past couple years. He believes the marketing claims.

Timnit Gebru

Bernie hasn't tried this on here yet but here he is doing free marketing for OpenAI. He has been captured by the worst people in AI for a few years now and has been parroting company hype talking points instead of guarding against them. It’s like the public is being assaulted from all sides.

Having "Not sure" as a response option is almost always a bad experiment design. It conflates response with confidence.

I haven't watched Weekend at Bernie's in a while.

People from other countries experiencing Costco, Bucees, non-Mcdonalds fast food, and other US oddities is my favorite show.

"Do We Know What the Early Visual System Does?"

Nicole Rust

Great Q! In brief, lack of consensus about both what the explanatory targets are and the best route to achieve understanding said targets. In 2005, we wrote this for vision. There were many pieces like it. /1 www.cs.jhu.edu/~ayuille1/JH...

I've been curious about the liability of LLM summaries for a while. I've found them to be inaccurate often enough that the legal risk of using them seems way too high.

Claes Holtzmann

Court holds Google liable for false claims in AI Overviews. Seems significant. "A regular search engine just points to outside websites. But AI overviews generate 'independent, new, and substantive statements' by evaluating and combining content from various third-party sites" the-decoder

I need the people putting giant salt crystals on cookies to cut that out. It doesn't "balance the sweetness". It just tastes like a mouthful of salt. If I wanted salty food, I wouldn't get a chocolate chip cookie.

Even though it's not VSS, I was nearby and had to drop by Ted Peter's.
