The world fascists envision is nothing but concrete prisons and endless layers of walls. What happened today is an abomination.

This behavior undermines the news media at every level. Even if you work in an area of "the media" that has nothing to do with this, every little thing like this erodes the overall landscape.

The White House Correspondents Dinner is a great example of institutional accommodation to Trump and its payoff - which is a loss of credibility. Trump will no longer be mocked there, but will instead attack journalists both with his speech and using government power.

"Coastal Elites."
"Cool kids on the Internet. They're doing the cool kid chatter. Some of 'em might be the coastal elites, making fun of how I talk. But let's be real. They're making fun of Michigan. They're thinking they're better than us. Their jokes, their criticism, only make me fight harder." -- Haley Stevens
"He first stabbed an Asian man, Chok Sung, according to prosecutors." I guess Sung doesn't count, because he doesn't advance the obvious hit piece narrative. They don't say anything more about him, and the authors stop talking about the actual crime and perp entirely after just *90 words.*
Mark HarrisMamdani criticizes Netanyahu. Later, a crazy man stabs a Jewish man and an Asian man. And we get an article suggesting that while one stabbing (dismissed in six words) is just a shrug, the other implicates the mayor. Disgraceful framing. Shame on everyone involved. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/24/n...

Both Joy Hollingsworth and Dionne Foster, the sponsors, objected to the "narrative" that their program is "means-tested,' but that is literally the definition of cutting off access based on income and requiring parents to prove their income in order to qualify. "Universal" is the opposite.

the only people who could ever earnestly support means testing are people who've never had to be means tested before. it is a humiliating, dehumanizing bureaucratic hostage negotiation with a system whose primary purpose is to *not* provide financial support as often as humanly possible
Erica C. BarnettThe Seattle City Council just voted 6-3 to approve Joy Hollingsworth's amendment to delay universal school lunches for kids, replacing them with vouchers for qualifying low-income parents to buy groceries over school breaks and weekends. Eddie Lin, Alexis Mercedes Rinck, and Rob Saka voted no.
