In the 18thC the Royal Navy required their makers of sailcloth to stamp their identity on each bolt of cloth. By chance the original stamp of John Bullock from 1781 was found a year or so ago. A trip to Bath Potters for ceramic supplies yesterday. Up via A303/37 but back via Pilton, Glastonbury and Somerton. This took just 25 minutes longer but was so much more relaxing than the outward trip.The highlight was Marion seeing an old college friend who has now handed the reins to her daughter

Our neighbours run a business making brownies which they post and also have a stall at Bridport Market. Due to the said items melting last Wednesday they now have an holiday while they await the cooler weather (Bayside Bakery).

If you are planning a slow trip to Hestercombe then the route we sometimes take makes a nice journey. Bridport to Langport, coffee by the R Parrett at the Wharf then to Burrowbridge, option to climb the Mump. Then the A361/A38 to Taunton on the north side so avoiding the A358 race track

Hestercombe is worth visiting as is Sculpture on the Lakes. We have not been to Kilverton for some time. 30 degrees forecast for the next 7 days, will not be going very far and poor dog will be confined to barracks again!

We went there last Friday after a fraught day going to Potfest at Shaftesbury. Enjoyable walk and shady enough for our dog. The fraught day continued as we forgot to use our Forde Abbey membership which gets a 50% discount. I did not realise the house only dates to 1905
