Unlike those hyperactive Western toads, Pacific chorus frogs are pretty chill. They sit nice and still and mostly don't mind you putting a lens right up close.

Shag point! That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. I grew up just south of there. I remember excavations being in the news in the 80s. Maybe the same specimen🤷

Double-crested Cormorant. Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Calgary, Alberta. TIL (from Wikipedia) that calling all cormorants "shags" is a New Zealand English dialect quirk. Also TIL that "cormorant" is a contraction of Latin 𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑣𝑢𝑠 𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑠 ("sea raven"). #birds 🌿 #wildlifephotography

I spent this afternoon chasing tiny toads to practise some focus stacking. These cones caught my eye and had the appealing property of not trying to hop away. I find the structure of these cones fascinating Western Hemlock cone (left) and Douglas Fir cone (right). 🌿 #bloomscrolling #photography
