Looking for what the reaction to it was at the time, I found an overview in GamePro that highlights one of the main issues with it: it couldn't display web pages with frames, java elements, or sound files embedded in them. Would likely factor into the overall poor sales for the Net Link.

Originally end of 1997. But then it slipped back to 1998 (the full trailer on an early 1998 Interplay game I clipped this from says Winter 1998) and then announced cancelled in early 1999.

Yeah, the facial animations are really something special, way beyond anything else I've seen on computer or console at the time. Especially for what would have been in-engine.

Looking at some of the Japanese computer ports of Ultima IV and the visual differences in the opening are really interesting.

It's likely all we'll ever see of it though, as from what I've read on a fansite, only 5% of it was ever finished. If it had come out, it would have been Deforest Kelley's final voice performance as McCoy (rather than 25th anniversary/Judgement Rites).

Ahh, yeah, that's where I first saw it too. I was sooo excited as well. For this and the Babylon 5 space combat sim that also never was.

Thankfully, we have a little gameplay footage archived to see what it would have been like. It sounds very ambitious: six different chapters, each one serving as an adventure for one of the command crew.

A TOS-era Star Trek game that sadly never was in the end: The Secret of Vulcan Fury. Overrunning costs and difficulties with the filming the clay models used for motion capture, plus Interplay's financial instability ultimately led to its cancellation.
