Ahh nothing like looking at your work email on your day off and seeing that someone sent an email to the entire agency and now everybody is replying all and copying the entire agency.

The lab leak theory has legs because it plays to a particular frailty of the human mind. When something large and bad happens (COVID), we are wired to think that an agent is responsible for it. Structural explanations, viral evolution, etc. doesn’t meet our brain’s causal requirements.

Max Kennerly

Good lord. The "conspiracy" was a bunch of emails among scientists saying "this is xenophobic bullshit and is confusing the public, we should rebut it" and they were right. The "lab leak" theory still requires far more leaps, inferences, and assumptions than the straightforward zoonotic theory.

I still go back to the fact that one cannot sign a contract with oneself. The unitary executive means the "settlement" is invalid.

Today in the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) is gonna force a vote on an amendment that would ban the IRS + Treasury Dept from entering into agreements that grant someone immunity from tax audits -- a perk Trump just got in a shady settlement with IRS, signed by Todd Blanche.

My book is nearly complete & I'm looking for people to beta-read it. The book is about rivalry (or competition) from where it starts in the brain all the way out to civilization itself. It explains a whole ton of stuff we see in everyday life, including our current state of politics.

Survey data worldwide shows ~33% of people have an authoritarian predisposition in politics. This is pretty consistent with retaining just the ones who are right wing and then a smaller outer ring of people who don’t follow any news at all.

Bradley P. Moss

I will confess that I did not believe he would get below 35%. I thought that was his floor. Color me intrigued.

I really wish this Bozo would stop fucking with all our shit.

President Trump is set to announce a sweeping plan to remake Dulles International Airport, including building new terminals and doing away with the airport’s long-criticized shuttles, according to two people. Read more here:

Carl Schmitt in action folks. Comey was declared an enemy, outside the law. Constrained by it, but not protected.

The chances are quite good that the "number three" at DOJ who ordered Jim Comey to be illegally surveilled was Third Circuit judge Emil Bove. (He was nominated days later.) storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Nothing can be about anything other than Trump. Absolutely vile.

Hannity: "My President, Lindsey probably has a heavenly version of Mar-a-Lago. It may even be a little bigger. I wouldn't be surprised if he added one big beautiful ballroom and an arch somewhere on the property. Because he would want to obviously duplicate his dearest friend in life. You."

It’s hilarious to me that Fetterman is announcing his departure from the Dems two and a half years out from his next election. While at the same time saying “fuck you” to everyone who voted for him.

I often wonder whether Yglesias or Klein know they are cultivated by rich people to prevent positive change. That’s why they were let into the elite circles they run in. Because they are useful.

I call this “social enforcement.” People are sensitive to being the odd one out of a group and because of this will outwardly try to conform. And authoritarianism makes this worse due to the underlying current of violence in the movements, making being the odd one dangerous.

People are more likely to support authoritarian leaders if people around them do. www.psypost.org/anti-democra...

Most beautiful teepee ever.

It's actually rare for me to be *truly* tempted by something I see on Zillow. But this one is special. Oceanfront, unique, gorgeous, with a view of the Golden Gate. How is this only $899K? Lumiere House in Pt Richmond is on #SaturdayNightZillow. Enjoy! www.zillow.com/homedetails/...
