Recent Reads: International Rescue Technical Operations Manual. Like the rest of Anderson Entertainment's illustrated volumes, this has the conceit of being an in-universe book, guiding new agents through the machines and people of Thunderbirds. Mainly machines, of course. A gorgeous, hefty read.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #EgretsAndHerons, any egret or heron will do. The alt is #Yellow, any bird with yellow as part of its plumage. Do this little egret's yellow feet count as a twofer, exploring rockpools at St Catherine's on Jersey? #birds #birding #wildlifephotography #jersey #egret

Recent Reads: Slow Gods. Claire North's space opera is a fascinating read. FTL kills pilots, driving them mad. But one survives, not quite of this world. A supernova kills worlds and civilisations, but North focuses on little moments in the pilot's journey, the love that drives all and builds gods.

Recent Reads: The Scarab Mission. James L. Cambias' Billion Worlds is a posthuman far-future mundane SF solar system, where travel remains slow and expensive. But there is still scope for adventure, in tales like this one of scavengers in a dead habitat uncovering dark secrets - some of them theirs.

Wait. Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin did a cover of Thomas Dolby's Leipzig? This I have to hear... <later> It's not bad. Which of course now makes Dolby at the very least Hatfield and the North adjacent.

This time the Torment Nexus is Vernor Vinge's Rainbows End (which is a must read for anyone living through these times). However in Vernor's book, the books were being destructively scanned to become a searchable public archive as part of a university library.

No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.

Well that was painless. Our new ISP completed the migration yesterday; today I swapped out the username and password on the router and we are back online!

Whilst I was off on the beach, Marsh dropped another of his outdoor live deep sets, this time from a canal boat crossing the beautiful Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Gorgeous scenery and music in harmony. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryii...

In Christopher Nolan's Odyssey, could they afford the duck or did they have to have the chicken?

So when did the lyrics of the first verse in Downes Braide Association's song Machinery of Fate change from "Perhaps a power greater than us decides who rides the omnibus" to "Perhaps a power greater than us decides who rides and who gets off"?

And a man who inspired many of us with his love of birds.

Farewell Bill, most radical of the Goodies. Present at Grosvenor Square with Tariq & Vanessa. Turned his harassment by the Met into slapstick TV comedy for kids. Angry, hairy, furiously talented.
