I don't disagree (though the mess with the ACA demonstrates that the depth of conviction is important beyond just the breadth). I am saying the gap between "how it's supposed to work" and "how it actually works" may be a function of "are we successfully advertising our wins"

I don't think that swinging the pendulum further in one direction (winning big) will stop it from swinging back... I think the key insight is that the campaign (to build and maintain popular support for candidates and platforms) does not end with the election.
