I love subtitles as a way of thinking about translation and the choices made to convey the sentiment from one language to another if I’m properly tuned in, but actually learning from them is a lost cause simple because you can be way too focused on the subs to pick out anything useful from the audio

Helps that a lot of the fanbase were just way too young to notice or care. I certainly didn’t lol

It took me a bit to figure out how to approach writing about this and if I even wanted to. It’s largely a ramble, but it let me get my feelings out there and I guess that’s what my blog is for

I really like the episodic nature of Divine Incursions, but I was also happy to see the author improve on some of the issues I’d had with volume 1. Worth revisiting!

Good but sad book mail after yesterday’s news. I will do my upmost to savour Guilt.

Like I feel having an appointment at half 8 when reception isn’t even open until half 8 to direct / help people is just wasting everyone’s time when someone ends up late ‘cause of faffing about with all that.

Since it doesn’t even open up reception until 8:30 you have to grab some poor soul who’s running around trying to prepare for their day. You could do with a 10-15 minute buffer on appointment times just so lost souls like me can figure out what they’re even supposed to do.

I am entirely done for the day after not enough sleep and that appointment. It was fine! But it’s a service being ran out of a GP, so you have reception for registered patients and then you have people like me there for this service who have to sign in somewhere else with 0 signage saying such. And

I hope so too! It is certainly a nice benefit to be hopefully first in and then able to go home and zombie the rest of the day. And I am grateful it at least fell on a day where I was off work anyway (I never got a say, it was one of those ‘we’ve made an appointment for you’ jobs 😅)

Tomorrow I have to be up well before 8 since I got booked in for a 8:30 medical appointment at a clinic I have never been to before and that apparently doesn’t even open until half 8. None of this sounds like it’s going to be anything other than lack of sleep and anxiety

Damn I was not expecting to see that news about Higashino, he was still so young. :(

Author Keigo Higashino passed away at 68 from cancer last week. Most people know him in the West as the author of "The Devotion of Suspect X" and "Salvation of a Saint" but he wrote SO many books. He's one of the most prolific mystery authors in Japan. This is a huge shock. He will be missed.
