this thread isn't accusatory. more people including IDs is great. those IDs being more equitable in their descriptions is the next step we all need to support each other in making together. i know my IDs are not perfect either, but i love getting feedback and learning whenever i can okay bye 👋

reading image descriptions written by artists of color, disabled artists, queer & trans artists, fat artists, artists of other cultural groups, etc can help if youre describing art of characters you dont share experiences with as well. how do people of these groups describe themselves?

so some Tips: -give a basic desc of the same traits for all chars (skin & hair color, hair texture and length, body type, clothes. vary as relevant) -explain or dont use terms most wouldnt know how to visualize. "small tight curls" not just "3B" -describe unique traits (purple eyes vs brown)

this thread isn't vagueing anyone in particular. i scrolled for a few minutes on portfolio day and saw this exact scenario 5 or 6 times. i Only saw it that many times because many other art posts with IDs did not include Any art of "diverse characters" whatsoever. same skin tones, hair, body types

this is true of other identifiers, too. often skinniness, early adulthood, straight hair, and gender conformity don't get described. ID of "a woman" (white, thin, long straight hair, feminine clothes, 20-30yo) vs how a fat, middle aged stud with a cane would Almost Certainly get described

so if most of your elfkissing art is of skinny white blonds and you do not communicate that to your audience, but art of a Black elf with locs Does get described, you are communicating that art of racialized characters is a notable deviation from the norm - the "norm" being whiteness (aryan, often)
