A lot of what politicians do is just performance, stuff to show to the voters back home. Most professional politicians spend most of their time raising money by promising to do or not do stuff for rich people. The rest is show.
Please read Lewis Powell’s 1972 memo to the chair of the US Chamber of Commerce. Nixon appointed Powell to the SC. Republicans have been following this memo ever since. The memo outlines a plan for combating just this kind of advocacy. The conservatives are unlikely to deviate from the plan.
This is a lie. There is no other way to put it. Congress could stop Trump in a moment. They don’t because they approve of what he is doing. They are in it together.
