Please read Lewis Powell’s 1972 memo to the chair of the US Chamber of Commerce. Nixon appointed Powell to the SC. Republicans have been following this memo ever since. The memo outlines a plan for combating just this kind of advocacy. The conservatives are unlikely to deviate from the plan.
