I forgot to post this working paper when we put it online a couple months ago, but we think it's really cool and you should read it. tl;dr: State targeting of even a small group of people can have an absolutely massive effect on turnout of the larger group bpb-us-e1.wpmucdn.com/sites.mit.ed...

Thrilled to join the show with @faithfulpolitics.bsky.social along with @andrew-whitehead.bsky.social. We took stock of our Christian nationalism research over the past 10+ years, clarified definitions, assessed the state of the nation, and outlined hopes for the future. Check it out.
Will (Faithful Politics)The final week of Church & State 250+ begins with a doozy. @profsamperry.bsky.social and @andrew-whitehead.bsky.social explain Christian nationalism and the question at the heart of it: Who belongs in America, and who should hold power? youtu.be/6VdQcqYMCYk

Is it time to eliminate entire fields of knowledge I don't personally like? Just asking questions. Fascist questions.
Jess CalarcoThere's an irony in the fact that, to make her argument that Sociology has sacrificed science for activism, Ms. Paul cherry-picks quotes that support her views. 1/
It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.
Interesting use of my work in a new paper. Authors use well-established finding that ideology is weaker predictor of party id among Black Ams than among White Ams as benchmark for sample quality. Representative samples recover that pattern. Less rep. samples do not. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Christianity preaches "blessed are the meek". So why does Christian nationalism glorify competition and economic dominance? Kettering fellow Andrew Whitehead helps us understand the role of Christian nationalism in supporting American inequality.
Andrew WhiteheadThe last time the US produced income & wealth inequality at these levels was during the Gilded Age/Roaring 20s. Historians & social scientists identify two commonalities between a century ago & now: the overlapping influences of Christian nationalism & capitalism. kettering.org/economic-ine...

In a new study w/ @profsamperry.bsky.social, we show that the link btw Christian nationalism & views of economic inequality remain strong, particularly for richer Americans (who benefit from status quo). ⬆️ CN = approval of economic inequality, esp among the wealthy academic.oup.com/sf/advance-a...
Once you understand that this is a model of science written by non-scientists who hate universities but love venture capital and redirecting money to political allies, everything makes a lot more sense. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/22/u...
Science is not truth. Science is finding the truth. When science changes its opinion, it didn't lie to you. It learned more.
While we’re on the subject, I also think it’s weird freak behavior to be an adult who makes Hating Children For Merely Existing their entire personality.
Ken Paxton recently bought 3 Utah luxury condos worth $1.6 million. He then put them in a blind trust that shares an address with the Dallas home he appears to be sharing with a woman who is not his wife.
Ossoff: "Here's what's going to happen tonight: the world's most famous sore loser will deliver a prime-time presidential sour grapes address to pursue his 6-year-old grievances about the 2020 election, while his war in the Middle East spirals out of control & the cost of living continues to rise.."
Excited to share our new study. Upshot: The more rightward White adults place Jesus on the ideological spectrum, the more solidarity they feel with other Whites. BUT it's the opposite for Black adults: the more conservative the Jesus, the less racial solidarity they feel. 1/6 doi.org/10.1093/socr...
