It says that it’s just a minor error, the map still looks like Africa at a glance

I asked Claude (Opus) to make the Africa map the state dept screwed up and it did well (better than the original!) except uh claude.ai/share/6dbd15...

One of my empirical-work econ takes is that I think academia should be *more* open to publishing work based on best-we-can-do weak data, as long as there's really no other way to address the question and that work is very clear about what it can and can't actually say.

And, frankly, for some of them, it's valid. Like, for immunocompromised folks, ANY new disease becoming endemic is catastrophic, and every day for them is like peak COVID for the rest of us.

Getting at least a few “using the past tense with respect to COVID is ignorant and part of the problem” and I mean, sure, it’s still with us. It’s endemic. So’s the flu. That sucks, it also happens sometimes. There is absolutely *a phase* of it that is in the past relative to now, though.
