A big problem I have with modern "criticism" is how people now think that average means bad. Anything less than an 8/10 or 9/10 means that it is on par with something actually awful. Everything has to be either "absolute cinema" or "the worst thing ever made" with no room in between.

Imo the bigger problem is a sophomoric belief that "if I can explain it, that means I understand it", which is how we're trapped in the eternal binary of "trope = bad, subversion = good", despite that toying with conventional story telling is.... Uh, literally all fiction, ever
