Threats from awesomely powerful AI is a mix of AI PR applied irresponsibility.

Agreed it is bad PR. Generally lean towards it happening bc of incompetence/ accident over malice. Assumed they had an “experimental mishap” with their tech and when they reported it, upper mgmt used it to draw attention and pump the tech.
