Today marks the Day of Commemoration of the Great Upheaval. It began in 1755 when Acadians were forcibly removed by the British from their homes in present-day Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and P.E.I. Between 1755 and 1763, about 10,000 Acadians were deported on crowded ships. Thousands died.
