as a film it’s a great companion piece to Nolan’s work, and of course a complete story on its own. I actually saw a trailer for The Return long before Nolan’s Odyssey and was baffled when Matt Damon showed up in the marketing l, thinking “that’s supposed to be Ralph Fiennes!”

oh yeah I just stumbled on it tonight (the podcast and her London Review piece). I’ve been sort of possessed by thoughts of the movie for the last week, although I haven’t been back to see it again. Even went and watched the Ralph Fiennes The Return last night. I am all in for the moment! 😅

I grabbed a minor in classical civilizations, although it mostly dealt with Roman and Etruscan history and art due to the classes on offer at the time. No classical languages. It’s a small miracle many people will be moved this summer to pick up *any* translation of Homer and give it a try.
