As someone who’s lived in both countries, this is exactly correct. However most of the liberal democracy country doesn’t understand that either. They have no concept of how bad things are on the other side because they can’t even conceive of it. And yet I’m ridiculed for even mentioning the reality.

I really do hate the rural poor. What a mistake it was giving them access to electricity and broadband. We should have been turning a blind eye to safety regulations in red counties, withholding federal funding and privatizing rural social services to Dollar General.

Genuinely, one of the best insights anyone has given me on the US is that the rest of the world does not understand it is actually two countries. The first is a Western advanced liberal democracy. The other a theocratic, impoverished, violent and corrupt third world country.
