Loved @gene.meme's article on copyright issues in the ubiquitous "Gen Alpha Melody". However, as a musicologist researching copyright (academic.oup.com/book/62353/c...), I have to point out that the shared (non-copyrightable) chord progressions obscure a lot of (copyrightable) melodic variation.

By my guidelines, using AI to check a manuscript is fine, generating text for a response to peer reviewers is not.

I’m mostly anti-AI, but it saves massive time for speech-to-text transcription (e.g., subtitles for my podcast interviews). You have to manually check and correct, though, as it makes some major mistakes.
