People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.
Adam Sawyer“If immigration hadn't picked up my brother, my sister-in-law would still be alive, and the children wouldn't be going through this sorrow,” he said. “Unfortunately, immigration — the [U.S.] government — doesn't see that. It makes no difference to them.” www.stlpr.org/law-order/20...
Can anyone with access to the Sunday Irish Independent get me functional access to this link? My library doesn't carry this, and my usual workaround isn't helping. Just want to see the poll results on Gaza. In the old days, we'd say #icanhazpdf ? www.independent.ie/irish-news/p...

"[ICE] is not law enforcement. [It] is a militia with a badge." - David Myers, retired commander, San Diego Sheriff's Office
Pretty damning comparison. The Khmer Rouge were not exactly fans of intellectuals, science, or knowledge.
AAUPTrump is waging a “Khmer Rouge-esque war on American science & intellectual achievement writ large,” escalating the climate crisis while systematically gutting the research needed to predict, mitigate, & survive it. #academicsky

I cover asylum cases from Guatemala, and let me assure you this is very, very real
Matt OrtegaStephen Miller said just the other day that all asylum claims are "fake." A couple deported from the U.S. to Guatemala were gagged, bound, and shot dead. Their 14-month old found crying next to their mother's body. People like Miller don't care though because this is the point: ethnic cleansing.

Text messages and videos obtained by the ACLU show that federal immigration agents who carried out last year’s raids in L.A. referred to Latinos with slurs such as “wet” (wetback) and “tonks,” reportedly derived from the sound a flashlight makes when hitting a migrant’s head.
The damage will last for a long time. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

Ugh. Just awful. Unclear what happened here but the implication I get from the article is that they’d fallen into deep debt and maybe owed money to some very bad people. And once they’d been deported, paying that money back was probably very very hard.

Irish too, for centuries. 1600s: called devils, cannibals 1710s: blamed for food shortages, called “St. Patrick’s vermin” 1790s: terrorists 1830s-80s: called paupers and apes who were kidnapped, deported, prevented from jobs. Irish Am's have soul searching to do. kevishere.com/2026/07/24/t...
A century ago, white nationalists were saying the exact same things about Rep. Rulli's Italian ancestors -- they weren't white, they were criminals, they could never assimilate to "our" country
