Oh yeah, but those were driven by other people, he was just acting in the lead. The movies he's directed have been pretty remarkably meticulous.

He kind of is though? Like, the Patriot sure is wackadoodle, but both Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto had absolute and complete dedication to historical accuracy, including having actors correctly pronounce their dialogue in dead languages. The bigger issue is those were 20 years ago!
