like setting aside flaccid enforcement people didn't make those rules because they hate Republicans they made those rules because bigotry is bad actually with actual material effects on people's lives and well-being. more people should question why there's a political party that thrives on it.
Don't miss this vile story: MAGA is raging at DHS chief Markwayne Mullin for admitting migrant farmworkers can beneft our economy. This means his devotion to ethnic cleansing is in doubt. He must be excommunicated! I wrote about the collapse of MAGA mythology here: newrepublic.com/article/2138...
"don't make enough money" is a fig leaf All those degree programs--social work, art, etc.--have disproportionately female student bodies. This is designed to make it harder for women to attend college--college education being a key factor in women's autonomy from men & left-leaning voting pattern.
The New RepublicPresident Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v
Blindingly obvious that this is targeted at “degrees we think women get.”

What books are on our editors’ nightstands this month? For @taoleighgoffe.bsky.social, co-editor of our Global Black History section, it’s Marie Mitchell’s “Kin: Caribbean Recipes for the Modern Kitchen,” out now from @wwnorton.com.
I don't even know what to say. This is real, this is true, so, like, thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. This took over 25 years to happen so if there's any lesson here it's either "keep at it, who knows" or "many people are divorced"
The biggest technological revolution of our lifetime and it has nothing to do with AI, crypto, metaverse, robots or any of the other massively hyped "tech" the media always talks about instead
Sarah TaberAbsolutely unbelievable how solar power has taken off worldwide during the Hormuz oil crisis. You don't have to hand it to him, but Trump may have done more to finally kick off a global civilization of effete librul solar users than anyone else in the West
one very weird downside to spending weeks at a time working on a series of episodes on a single topic are the content gobbling crawlers that make shoddy AI transcriptions of podcasts. if I google something too niche the top results are just AI generated summaries of what I wrote last week.
I do not like occupying the mind of Donald Trump. it sucks here. it doesn't even suck in an interesting way. I live in the neuroses of a profoundly boring man.
anyway going outside into washington dc, aka the president's personal construction site, that is full of soldiers because of nonexistent crime
extreme income inequality is bad for a lot of reasons but today the one i'm mad at is people having the wealth and power to force me to live inside their delusions
Children are not confused by trans teachers. Children understand far more than adults give them credit for. What confuses them is watching grown ups preach kindness in one breath and write laws designed to make another human being feel unsafe in the next.
A teacher’s job is to teach. To help a kid understand algebra, history, language, art, maybe even the radical concept that human beings deserve basic dignity. The job is not to pass a daily government approved gender inspection before first period.
the ACLU's Liz Barber noted government has no goddamn business policing what anyone puts on in the morning. Somebody wants a state Department of Slacks.
Michael McKeonNCRep. Erin Paré says it "may be time" for a law requiring school employees to wear "gender-appropriate professional attire," after complaints about a transgender music teacher in Wake County. The Campaign for Southern Equality called it cruel and likely unlawful;

Max KennerlyThe richest person in the world, an avowed white supremacist, today again posted "the next step is getting rid of 'source code' entirely and just making an efficient binary directly with AI" because he has no idea how anything works, not even the basics of industries he is in.
Just so everyone knows, this is a tried-and-true mainstream media tactic. For progressives/leftist candidates, every election is a “crucial test” and any loss would serve as proof to the media that the latest left-side moment is at its end. Any win, though, just means it’s time to find a new test.
PoliticoMichigan will provide another crucial test of whether progressives can not only keep up their winning streak in safe-blue seats but also break through in battlegrounds crucial for control of Congress. The stakes for the Democratic Party are huge.
