One last plug for this piece on the National Counties Championship and how it is a great alternative to the lack of red ball cricket at this time of the summer: yahooovercowcorner.wordpress.com/2026/07/30/alternative-part-two/

Kitty Kielland's take-no-prisoners entry into the debate about the role of women in the church. It was obviously written in a hurry. She misattributes Bible passages, gets some names wrong. But I wasn't trying for a scholarly edition, just her righteous indignation. Depressingly, still relevant.
Back to my first publisher for the next book, a look at maybe my favourite poet. Resulted in a couple of @rte.ie interviews and some really positive reviews in Irish print media. So a lot of fun. As always, I probably learned more writing it than readers did reading it. #booksky #Irishlit #poetry
A party that was actually anti-racist would be kicking this person out, not allowing them to run for the Governing Committee. There are many decent Greens who will be disgusted by this and I wish them all power fighting back against it. We know from experiance how hard that is.
Oh man. I'd completely forgotten about the BBC2W Ivor The Engine promos. All new, with Oliver Postgate and Anthony Jackson returning. They're up there with the Palin-voiced Clangers series in terms of bringing something back and it being just *right*. Here's one.
Reminded of this Will Self review of one of Rod Liddle's books, all the more damning for being scrupulously generous and fair www.theguardian.com/books/2014/m...

Neal Stephenson on why writing by hand is good for your brain and how to do it. Schools reducing lessons in handwriting cursive is maybe the biggest educational blunder of the past 20 years or so. By handwriting you combine motorcortex with abstractions & "engrave" knowledge. What a skill to have!
