It’s a little crazy-making for me personally that the very questionable claims about data center job and economic growth are so similar to those about sports stadiums

Micah

I mean this is fundamentally one of the big reasons why data centers have no local constituency: they don’t actually create a lot of jobs they’ll employ some folks during construction but the actual day to day operation of a data center really doesn’t need many people, especially given its size

I see the same 5 dudes biking the other way most days I commute. One has red hair, a beard, and glasses, pretty crunchy, stereotypical bike dad. Today I passed him…then passed him again 10 minutes later, riding a different bike, in different clothes. So, turns out, I see the same 6 dudes most days.

As we’ve seen in Ukraine, drones have completely upended the dynamics of asymmetric warfare

As Dave notes, this is very bad. If you’d like to know more about data centers and resource management from someone who actually studies this stuff for a living, may I humbly suggest this, instead news.vt.edu/articles/202...

There's a power/water trade-off in data center resource allocationLandon Marston, who studies sustainable water resources management, is in the middle of the growing challenge of power and water resource allocation for data centers.news.vt.eduDave Karpf

I'm reading the "environmentalists are wrong about data centers" piece from the NYT and ohmygoditssofuckingbad. Apparently, so long as you're punching left, they'll just let you say any goddamn thing you please... www.nytimes.com/2026/07/25/o...

Still catching my breath after that final stage finish at the #TourDeFrance. Incredible that the organizers were able to swallow their pride after seeing Montmartre work for the Olympics and transform the finish into something so much better than it ever used to be.

If I had a nickel for every time a pack of greedy, dead-eyed, incurious, wealthy midwits destroyed a career path I worked my ass off to get into I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
