Can't help but feel it's one of those observations designed to make the observer feel clever... while eliding the perfectly obvious: It's a set on a soundstage, and you need room for your actors, your cameras, and crew. Duh.
Nolan VoidLiterally *every* TV family had a large house then. The Bundys in Married With Children had a nicer house than I’ve ever lived in and a running joke in that show was that Al was working the same entry level job as a shoe salesman that he got right out of high school.
For @cheru and some of my other retrotrash mutuals: A 1986 VHS document of the publication's traveling convention.
ANYONE who thinks CGI or VFX are the "easy way out" should be forced to do a wire removal where the hero and background plates were lit with fire light.
Shane Anderson 🏳️🌈THE FALL has 9x3D artists credited in the 54-person VFX team. Fuck off with this "Allergic to CGI" claptrap
Saw this one for the first time tonight: Incredible nightmare loop of a movie where everyone- even the locations that barely contain them, seem like they're living their last moments on repeat. Dead prison. Dead people. Dead motivations. Vent your frustration by ventilating a mattress. 9.5/10
It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
In some ways, 90's action movies may have been even more insane than 80's ones.
there's just something i positively adore about the postmodernist look of the OG. it does have that liminal space kind of vibe... like the mansion might just go on sprawling forever across these uncomfortably sparse and unnaturally bright corridors
Keisuke Itagaki has drawn a guest art for the One Piece card game. I can't wait for someone who doesn't know Baki to pull this card and sit there quietly to process it
respectfully, we've taken a few days to talk about the translator's take on The Odyssey and I would like to get back to my original question of "Why Did Odysseus Put That One Suitor In A Dragon Sleeper and Who Taught Him How to Do That in Ancient Greece?" if that's okay
