Wolf's Cave(LDN 1228) and Dark Shark(LDN 1235) nebulae located in the Cepheus Flare, a large molecular cloud complex. Both are extremely faint and are a mix of reflection and cold dark nebula components. Exposure: 6 hours, updated 07/15/26 #astronomy #astrophotography

I tested out some new kit last night: Askar 50P scope and Optolong L-Ultimate narrow-band filter. Conditions are not great here. Bortle 8 light pollution with patchy smoke from current western US fires. Target was the North American Nebula (NGC 7000) with 6-hour total exposure.

When the Lunar Orbiter 4 spacecraft gave us our first good view of the Orientale basin it was revelatory. Not only was this giant multi ringed impact basin first revealed in its general form, other such basins were recognized across the Lunar near side. Oil paints on canvas panel.

An ethereal moonrise over Seattle tonight. Ribbons of wildfire and Blue Angels smoke painted the moon in deep red and amber, softening its usual glare until it looked almost otherworldly above the Space Needle.
