Fortunately the insects, which go back to WW2 are owned by the Smithsonian so they are still there. Otherwise almost all the people and equipment are gone. These places belong to the citizens, even if they cannot directly access them, and they provide valuable knowledge that we all benefit from.

It already happened. The Walter Reed Biosystematc Unit was started during Vietnam by the Army to monitor and study risks to troops overseas by mosquitoes, lice, fleas, and other biting insects. It employed < dozen staff and trained tons of students and post docs. The Army shut it down last year.

Read a paper that shows, like male Toxos, they have lost the specofic mouthparts blood feeding species use, so I'd say it would be impossible for them to bite. They might still drink from wounds like some males shown in work by @vectorgen.bsky.social.
