Opening up an old Android project made with Eclipse when we still had single digit SDK level.

As much as I am a big proponent of free and open source software, being open source does /not/ inherently make a software more secure. Just because something happens to be on GitHub doesn't mean it's better for your security. This idea of 'open source = secure-r than closed source' is a misnomer.

Having watched The Pitt (amazing show, recommended if you aren't squeamish), I started to imagine what a programmer-oriented drama show would be like. Unfortunately, a lot of our dramas tend to be very mild. At best we figure out what the client meant by "scrolls slowly when I use three fingers."

Whenever I get asked, "How did you memorise all this?" when doing terminal-fu, the answer is that I don't really memorise them. At some point, you just start hearing passive-aggressive Arch Linux forum posts being read in your mind when you use the terminal.

Someone, somewhere, prayed too hard to pull me from the in-game gacha banner that I end up manifesting in the real world too. I had to get a job as a programmer, though, because being a knight doesn't pay in this world.

Sometimes I want to make a video that says "no, I'm not /loyal/ to Linux" -- because I really am not. If Linux were to pull a Microsoft, or worse, I'd do the same vituperative rally. No operating system, software, or any piece of tech has my loyalty. I'm not loyal to /something/, or /anything/.

Sharing this because I've had some people asking for it: you can boot an UEFI drive through many hypervisor/virtualisation software! This can assist you in troubleshooting a /lot/ of things -- chief among them being an unreliable flash drive.

"AI detectors" often use AI themselves, which are non-deterministic. These detectors easily hallucinate their outputs and give inconsistent results with slight/minor changes. This goes for anything they try to detect: AI-generated texts, images, sounds, voices. Be warned!

Android was built on the diversity and openness of its ecosystem. It was the platform that (honestly) led me to pursue my career. Now, though, Android is a sterile, near-impregnable wall -- and Google will continue building that wall until the 'open' Android we have is encased in it.
