I regret to inform you these are rookie numbers, NJ cop. Cortland and Kedzie during M-F morning commutes gotta be at least 75 stop sign runs per hour. Looking at phone while moving? Maybe 60% of drivers? Conservatively?

The War on Cars

Catching 74 distracted drivers in six hours is good, but what would be better is redesigning the street so drivers are forced to pay attention.

ONE MILLION BIKE RIDES THIS MONTH. Just on Divvy.

David Powe

Divvy just hit its first ever 1 million ride month! 🚲 Today, Chicago reached this incredible milestone. It's the result of expanding our bikeway network, making Divvy more affordable through operating subsidies & investing in safer, better biking across the city. Here's to the next million!

Has anyone done a gantt chart of mayoral senior staff and significant city department heads? Might be instructive...

Chicago Sun-Times

Acting Chief Financial Officer Steven Mahr replaced Jill Jaworski, who left City Hall in January for a job at Navy Pier. Now Mahr is also leaving after less than eight months as Jaworski’s interim replacement.

Periodic reminder that if you care about Chicago's public schools you need to be following @maureenkelleher.bsky.social and subscribed to Board Rule.

Maureen Kelleher

The freshly revised Chicago Public Schools budget, which assumes a $285 million TIF surplus will eliminate the need for furlough days, seems likely to be approved at Thursday's school board meeting. board-rule.ghost.io/beyond-the-b...

Looking for recs. I'd like to subscribe to home delivery of a print pub focused on Chicago, arrives 1/month (or more freq) that has a mix of local news and features. I can't tell how to subscribe to @chicagomagazine.bsky.social (or if it will continue to publish??).

#ChiEd a great tool! Thanks @illinoisanswers.bsky.social

If you're going to be closely following the school board election (like me) then you can use this tool to get daily or pushed email updates on finance filings (made by @drewjayadams.bsky.social) #chicago filings.illinoisanswers.org/subscribe

Sure glad city council decided to spend a few hundred million on a new parking garage this week. Definitely a move that shows we are a serious city and are responding to the climate crisis with the urgency required.

I’ve been to a lot of Chicago political fundraisers in the last 15 years, during the Rahm years, saw a lot of Rahm at Ald fundraisers. During the Lori years, same (caveat of covid). Have not seen Johnson once.

I biked 20 miles between meetings today, but I did so because almost all of my route was concrete protected and felt safe - Humboldt Blvd, Augusta (good and bad parts), Milwaukee, Kinzie, Clinton, Randolph, Washington, inner blvd Kedzie, + Logan. But, I was basically just lucky!

Joseph Miscimarra 🇺🇸

It’s a 100°+ heat index day, and the Clinton St bike lanes are still packed Such a missed opportunity that we haven’t done this in more places. There are dozens of streets that have a similar layout.

What would our city look like with a +5% or +10% shift in each community area? Less pollution, less traffic, faster buses, more economic activity, more connected neighbors, fewer crashes, less need for road repair.

Wish more Chicago education folks were active here, #chied twitter ~2010-2014 was a wonderfully active scene. Would have been a lot of discussion and debate about how the last few years

I believe the score on that light cycle was 12 bike/scooter 8 private car Imagine how that would tip even further if the lane were protected through the intersection so you didn't have to worry about being sandwiched between a cement truck and drivers turning like maniacs to get onto the Kennedy

Chicago 2100 Urbanism

Can't believe they built these bike lanes for them to just be empty all of the time?

Needed a few more bags of mulch (5) and a few grocery items. Right tool for the job 🚲

Wish that Chicago 311 would summarize lifetime stats in the app.

Does anyone know if/when this will be updated? www.chicago.gov/city/en/site... Have a meeting that is, unironically, on Archer Ave on SW side and want to know if I can get there safely from Humboldt Park.

Oof, I can see Kedzie from North to Palmer sticking out like a sore thumb. No surprise - it's the missing link in an otherwise fairly connected network on Kedzie from Elston down to Palmer. Kedzie intersects the boulevard, the 606, and almost reaches the new Humboldt Park lane.

David Powe

Stepping into a new role at CDOT overseeing Complete Streets & Public Way Policy. Our team is updating maps to better visualize safety issues. We're building new layers that combine Divvy ridership, bike crash data per mile, and more to better understand patterns across the bikeway network.
