My parents are comfortably retired because they weren't bankrupted by my dad's pre-existing conditions. And my brother was able to get life-saving treatment while working as a cook with no benefits because of the ACA. So you'll forgive me for preferring that to an ideal plan that doesn't exist.

Look at the entire history of politics: the only way to get an agenda advanced is to get the side that's more reachable into power and push them to do what you want. Imagine if the Civil Rights Movement had said "fuck LBJ, he probablly says the n-word in private, we're better off with Goldwater."
