Co-founders Eris Nyx and Jeremy Kalicum were buying, rigorously testing and selling meth, cocaine and heroin for a compassion club. They said if people knew what they were taking they were less likely to overdose. The approach was working, but then they were arrested and convicted of trafficking.

DULF lawyers took a couple of weeks, heard over a couple of months, to lay out their case that closing the compassion club selling meth, cocaine and heroin violated member's Charter rights to life, liberty and security of the person. The judge really did seem to understand the crisis by the end.
