Watching the Spike Lee proshot of #PassingStrange was also my introduction to Colman Domingo.

I'm aware that I likely missed certain seasons of limited theatre runs in Greece.

Before I went on the trip to Greece, I had this ignorant assumption that there were theatre venues performing ancient Greek plays IN FULL and in masks. But as I found online, most of what I could see were troupes performing snippets. I guess that's what digestible for English audiences.

There are times I read a historian's take on, say, a historical fiction movie or biopic. I like learning real facts from it. And many good historians acknowledge that they're not dramaturgs and recognize artistic liberties. And sometimes there can exist criticism of artistic license.

Personally, I'm not gonna lie that I preferred this performer when I saw the musical live in 2017 than I did when I watched the #Hadestown proshot, but I think there's just an annoying toxicity spilling over that even legit criticisms is getting subsumed by it.

It’s one thing to talk and process preference, and negativity is ok, but I think there’s toxicity in how Theatre Twitter talks about a #Hadestown performer.

BTW, so this Athens building is where an all-male troupe performs segments of ancient Greek plays in traditional masks. Among the selections is a scene of Odysseus outwitting and escaping Polyphemus the Cyclops. “Medea and Other Friends I Made In Athens.” Photography is permitted. (Not video.)

Skimming through my Greece trip photos. This is Agora at Athens’ sign about an ancient synagogue. As the story goes, Paul spoke there and “did not have much of an impact” other than some eventual Christian converts I guess.

Unless it's verified, I only ran into one third/secondhand rumor that Dave Malloy wants to adapt THE ODYSSEY... and I mean James Joyce's ULYSSES. But again, rumor based on someone's ONE comment. But then again, that also just PLANTS THE IDEA of DAVE MALLOY doing ULYSSES.

I think the funniest thing about Emily Wilson’s disagreement is that she also found the movie “fun” and fun to watch with her teen kids. Opinions can be complicated.
