Gov't Oversight. MI/DC/VA/elsewhere. Here: Politics, Star Wars and other nerdery, DIY projects, bread, and occasional puns. Views expressed are my own. Mark Hamill mentioned me once on the beforetimes social media app.

"We have no alternative but to take his word" says the most powerful man in the co-equal branch of government.

Aaron Rupar

Cornyn: "As to the idea it could be revived in the future, I think it's highly unlikely that could happen without the cooperation of the DOJ. And I think Mr Blanche gave us the assurances that it was dead and would not be revived and in this case we have no alternative but to take his word" 🙃

Dammit please don't make me defend Jeanine Pinot

Aaron Rupar

Trump: “I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro on the Reflecting Pool. I don’t know what she was thinking? To me, it was a pure case of VANDALISM, that included the grass, which had a big 86 47 emblazoned …There may have been some contractor difficulty, but major damage was caused by VANDALS!”

After two weeks, showings of the Odyssey are still almost completely sold out, at least in the DC area. Another failure for Elon.

The judge should absolutely dismiss this with prejudice. The Government had the option to wait until it had all the facts to pursue an indictment, and instead DOJ chose to indict an innocent man because the Very Special Boy had a tantrum.

Scott MacFarlane

FLASH: Justice Dept seeks to dismiss Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool criminal case against former Olympian David Hearn Trump Admin acknowledges: "Damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in June 2026 was the result of flawed installation by the contractor"

Obviously this is a monumentally dumb idea. Like, epically so. But I have to ask: what the fuck was Google's thinking here? What is the positive use case for this???

Joseph Cox

New from 404 Media: Google Earth has introduced an AI feature that lets anyone fabricate completely bullshit satellite images. In our own tests, we added a “bomb blast and crater” to an area of Los Angeles. This is a misinformation time bomb, will 100% be abused www.404media.co/google-earth...

I know there are lots of things for Dems to do if they retake Congress in the mid-terms. But I really hope that small shit doesn't get overlooked, like investigating how much taxpayer money was spent to create 250,000 different passports to honor the Very Special Boy.

CNN

The US State Department will now offer passports featuring President Donald Trump’s image on the inside cover at special events across the United States. https://cnn.it/4bGnF3p

Yes, I'm sure Netanyahu will agree to have armed Palestinians in Gaza as part of a police force. What would make you think he wouldn't?

PatriotTakes 🇺🇸

Trump announces an “International Stabilization Force will work with a new Palestinian police force to take responsibility for Gaza being safe for its residents and its neighbors.”

Trump apparently thinks the January 6th rioters were treated worse than enslaved Americans and Native Americans.

PatriotTakes 🇺🇸

Trump on January 6th rioters, etc: “Perhaps there has never been a group of people treated so badly in our Nation's history.”

Whatever staffer wrote this should be fired. If Stevens OKed it she should drop out. El-Sayed has never once blamed any of his problems on Jewish Americans. This tweet was written by AIPAC.

She knows she’s losing so she said let’s just go mask off.

There are no less than seven (7) model planes shown in this video. This is not the office of the President of the United States. It's the apartment from the movie Big.

Dom Ervolina

Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted this video of the Oval Office and it somehow looks even more embarrassing than I realized

Do Republicans truly not know that you don't need a photo ID to pick up medication? Even for controlled substances?

Aaron Rupar

Rep. John McGuire on need for the SAVE America Act: "You can't go anywhere, you can't get medicine, you can't go to the Obama museum without a photo ID."

000

Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but we already have multiple federal agencies whose job it is to investigate corruption. Off the top of my head: DOJ FEC SEC Office of the Special Counsel Inspectors General

The Washington Post

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) is set to introduce legislation to create a new federal agency to investigate corruption in response to President Trump’s administration ahead of the midterm elections.

Generously granting that Scholten is sincere (and not just fig-leafing racism), I'd want to know who she thinks has spouted more "anti-American sentiment" or anti-American policies--El-Sayed, or Trump? Because that's the rub. You don't get a perfect candidate when you put together a Popular Front.

There's going to be a centrist Uncommitted but specifically just because Abdul is Arab lol

The robot centaur pulls the chainsaw module out of the truck bed, focusing its dead eyes on me as the attachment clicks into place. "No job is worth your limbs," it says, taking a step toward me as the saw roars to life. www.satyress.com#mission

Fauci should probably sue Tuberville for defamation. The speech and debate clause does not protect them during television interviews.

Aaron Rupar

TUBERVILLE: Fauci killed 9 million people FOX BUSINESS: Yeah. We can't prove that, right? TUBERVILLE: We can

Not that there are flattering photos of Douthat, but I'm a bit tickled that the times headlined their story with one of the least flattering ones possible.

The New York Times

Breaking News: Ross Douthat, The New York Times opinion columnist, is joining CBS News’s “60 Minutes” in one of the first major hires since Bari Weiss’s takeover.

001

It's astonishing how many people seem to actually believe journalism is just "airing embarrassing stories about people we don't like."

Jon Passantino

Bari Weiss & Nick Bilton are busy trying to recruit talent for their revamped "60 Minutes," conducting dozens of screen tests. And CBS News leaders "have also expressed a desire to air hidden camera-style investigative pieces" on the show. The scoop in @status.news www.status.news/p/60-minutes...
