IGN, which is the article linked in @mitchyd.bsky.social's post, is owned by Ziff Davis, a corp so openly Zionist and pro-genocide that the time IGN editorial made a fundraiser for Palestinian survivors of Israel's 2021 genocide, corporate seems to have come down so hard it eventually unionized IGN

Interesting that almost all analysis of Xbox in freefall completely ignores an organized boycott intended to harm the company financially. Meanwhile, multiple news stories on the home page all month about PlayStation boycotts that haven't even happened yet.

For those concerned, I can say a friend of mine did work on this for a long while now (name withheld by request), so I'm confident in personally saying it's legitimate. Also if you were eyeing this and have not played the Kill the Past games before, *please* play The Silver Case first.

Yeah like this is a big thing, there were fears in non-fringe conservative groups that pokemon was a literal attack from Japan because Americans straight up aren't familiar with people liking things from another country

Pokemon was outright called demonic. I vaguely recall there being campaigns against Dragon Ball, too. I think Sailor Moon dodged the same hatred by falling into the 'Girl's Media Ghetto' and being dismissed as nothing at all.

Absolutely false My local video store - My Neighbor Totoro needed a sticker explaining the bath scene was a cultural thing and totally fine. You needed ID to rent Faces of Death, Bubblegum Crisis, or Project A-ko because anime was for weirdos DBZ & Pokemon became popular in the VERY late 90s

Zack Davisson

This is bullshit. Dragonball, Sailor Moon, and Pokemon were ridiculously popular in the 90s. There was never a time in the US when people "hated and looked down on anime." At the most, there was a time when people were "unaware of anime."
