Has Osamu Tezuka ever made a slice of life manga? I feel like the depiction of common people and everyday life is what sets his "successors" apart from him. Tezuka did story manga (sometimes gag manga) up until the end.

Since I'm in my Fujiko Fujio-era, I started reading Fujiko F. Fujio's Esper Mami and watching Fujiko Fujio A's Laughing Salesman. A common trait that they share with Shōtarō Ishinomori is the growing interest in depicting everyday life, even though those two titles are not straight slice of life.

Sadly, in Italy too most comic conventions have stopped being about comics a long time ago. And the worst part is that the parts of these conventions that are still about comics are a nightmare, e.g. the recent tendency of using gambling-like systems to decide who gets to meet their favorite artist.

I'm always struck by how many in anglophone comics/manga studies seem to treat scholarship primarily as an expression of fandom, with no apparent curiosity about the medium and its history, content to forever recycle the same myths and tropes.

Japanese podcast for learners Regular Nihongo con Teppei is too hard and I don't understand over 50% of what he says, while Nihongo con Teppei for beginners is too easy and I understand everything. Still, I prefer listening to them instead of other podcasts because Teppei is funny and very natural.

The worst thing about this is that in Italy there's a long history of fascists trying to culturally appropriate of Captain Harlock and other vintage anime. Meloni herself was part of a movement that tried to do the same with Tolkien.

The more time passes the more I realize that for many certain stuff doesn't exist (and thus have no value, or "no cultural impact" as they are used to say) until it gets a direct adaptation.
