A long time client of mine died of an overdose a few days back. Always hollows me out. She was so young a.d really had a lot of trauma.

1/I took a young woman to the emergency room yesterday. She had three fractured fingers, a fractured wrist, a fractured orbital bone, and a concussion. As we waited in emerg, her partner called and begged her not to speak to the police. And that he's sorry and it won't happen again.

In my personal opinion, this is not about frontline staff. It is about a government that provides too few housing options, forces vulnerable youth through bureaucratic processes, and offers a pittance for basic needs. Read this child’s complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission. #abpoli

Youth Court this Friday morning, assisting a 12-year-old in custody. He has spent most of his life involved with Children’s Services. That history helps us begin to understand the underlying issues that can bring a child into conflict with the law.

I'm working with a 12 yr girl from Nunavut. Thousands of km away from family, she lives in group care due to the effects of colonialism & organic factors. She cannot safely remain with family/community, resulting in highly intrusive intervention & placed in care far from home.

This morning we are in courtroom 444(Youthcourt). We try to suppport youth, many of whom attend w/o family or supports.

Alone since 15. Teen mom. Attends high school. Victim of horrific Sexual violence. AB Income Support sluffs her off, tells her to find a job, get daycare & basically go away. Won't help even a couple of months. Now she is evicted and at risk of being thrown onto the streets #abpoli

Supporting a 16yr boy who was involved in an accident where there was a fatality. He is traumatized. This wasn't malicious, and yet, with these sorts of events, guilt, confusion, fear, and suicidal ideation come into play.

Helping a daughter whose mother is hospitalized. Mom has dementia, and the doctors are refusing to feed her and "let nature take its course." Daughter states mom still has quality of life, smiles, interacts, and the doctor's decision is based on their inability to assess due to mom's lack of speech

In this field you have to be very strong with loss and failure. Thats not to say you can't experience emotion.

Income Support denies a single mom with a 2-year-old. No family support at the moment, nor access to day care to watch the child. She's a survivor of a horrific sexual assault(the offender is in custody for years). And income support basically said-Go away. Soon to be on the streets #abpoli

1/What would you do? In my role, I am not a lawyer btw. Your values. Your morals. Your insight. A young mom, charged with 2nd degree murder, no prior involvement with the law, asks me to help with a bail plan.

Part of what we do is dignity. Supporting persons through tragedy, hopelessness, loneliness, and illness.

Helped a young person who was filled with terror and depression. Involved in the youth court. His parents refuse to drive him, support him, or provide any advice or information. You're only traumatizing your child, and I suspect you're part of the issue. I drove him home today.
