for months, ive been trying to map out the ways the right and the left were uniting against data centers and AI both here's my story on my efforts, featuring steve bannon's anti-tech prophet, my girlfriend's high school english class, and the unabomber:

New data debunks the teacher shortage contrarians. I wrote about new data available on the exodus from K-12 classrooms, teachers like me who left and the professionals we left behind in jobs that have only become more challenging.
This summer I've been thinking a lot about how much better my mental health gets when I'm not teaching...anyways, every single thing in this thread:

This entire thread (and article) provide an important perspective, mainly, the teachers who are choosing to stay in public education are struggling more and facing ever increasing challenges. #EduSky #TeacherSky
Anne Lutz FernandezBut one is being quashed. I’ve heard from too many educators who find it harder now to feel they are making a difference in kids’ lives. Abiding the conditions that grind away this essential motivation is giving up on American education without saying so.

This was a great moral injury perpetrated on all of us. And there has been very little wide-scale work to recover from that (in addition to everything else that we need to recover from with COVID).
Anne Lutz FernandezHoly shit, this. We’ve never dealt with how many humans became disposable.

Dan sees and articulates the role of AI very clearly so this is a good discussion

I was a substitute teacher for two decades, while I raised my 3 children (divorced). I preferred K-4 to help develop a curiosity to ask questions. The shortage of teachers & substitutes in rural areas is mostly due to the low salaries. As a substitute teacher I earned $82 per day. #Ohio
