AI surveillance is becoming a key instrument of state terror.
This new data compiled by @mattbarnum.bsky.social is invaluable. It makes clear that worries about the teacher shortage, downplayed by contrarians, were and are warranted. Importantly, it raises a largely ignored factor affecting student mental health, behavior, and academic success.
Among other things, this story highlights the fatal flaw in the long time strategy of trying to ask men to imagine if it was their wife or daughter who was being abused. Bernie Moreno has not called for this man’s resignation because male supremacy and power is thicker than blood.
My sister is always worth listening to.

Good analysis of "Late-Stage Trumpism" in Greg's latest:
Greg SargentThe failure of Trumpism as a "personalist" project doesn't mean the broader MAGA ideological project will fail. But I think it's good that personalist dicator rule is getting so widely rejected. It may be a sign of democratic resilience. Some thoughts on that here: newrepublic.com/article/2137...
Rand Paul in particular was keen to exploit the pandemic. He was among the first to blame teachers for school closures in the early months when dozens educators had already died in NYC. It was clear to me then the right saw their opportunity to crush unions and spread vouchers.
Jonathan CohnRepublicans want to rewrite the history of COVID just like they want to rewrite the history of January 6th and the ongoing reality of climate change. They refuse to accept that they or their ideas could be the villain of the story. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
"...the latest Bentley-Gallup survey shows Americans have cooled toward the technology in 2026. The shift is especially pronounced among young adults, who have become more skeptical across multiple measures in the study, including AI's overall impact, businesses’ use of AI and its effect on jobs."
Radical suggestion.
@ShamletHighly recommended: see the film with people, then read through this together and discuss. Agree, disagree, explore, explain. Navigate themes, characters, adaptation, interpretation, artistic forms. Engage and build understanding. Basically, remember what critique is for and use it accordingly.
Happy to hear directly from students. Sad that they don't have a functioning government.
"When talk turns to how stakeholders can come to trust AI, skepticism, rather than the technology, becomes the problem. The goal and result isn’t greater public trust, which depends on honesty, respect, and transparency...'"trusted autonomy’ discourse serves as a smokescreen for faith...'"
It's Ray Bradbury's world and we just live in it.

Last week Trump badgered local leaders to embrace data centers. His effort reminded me of a recent paper that I found fascinating, so I wrote this:
David Barton is a zealot.
MAGA ofc has been fighting civic action projects as "woke."
And the reason dems keep effing up on education is because of people like Rahm Emanuel and Arne Duncan, who legacy media also loves to platform so he can regurgitate his failed "bipartisan reform" ideas.
Oliver Willisthe reason democrats keep losing is because of people like rahm emanuel (who the media is obsessed with promoting but who has no actual constituency outside of the clintons and the media)
