Thanks Marie, is always good to add new data to Birdlife’s Powerful Owl Project, and I’m glad to have found them too🦉😊

Any new Powl is a wonderful sight, but these were a mystery for so long, and an unexpected delight to find when they finally showed up. Good to know another suburban park supports a family of Powls😊

The female was close by, keeping an even closer eye on the hollow. Once chicks are a little older she will leave the nest. POlws need large hollows but they're still not large enough to fit 2, or sometimes 3 owls!

🤣 Although you are right. On their first few days they are incredibly inquisitive. This one emerged from its hollow in the middle of a well used park with lots of activity to keep it interested, and awake.

The female, as always was close by. You'd think a large floofy owlet would be easy to spot but it's often the adult we see first!

Nice tree-snake, we saw a small one out last week too, even the frogs are still calling. I didn't notice it so much last year.

They are winter breeders. I'm not sure I'd like to be stuck in a hollow with a warm floofy chick, or two in a Brisbane summer, or even spring. It's been so warm hardly any of the POwls we follow have nested successfully this year, although some seem to be still trying!

The Powerful Owl chick looking at the big wide world at dusk last night. We'd seen it pop out the night before, but last night it clambered higher and didn't appear keen to return. It was still a surprise to see it fully fledged this morning.

Then she flew in and he fed her before flying to the nest tree to check out the hollow, sitting on the edge 'purring' and hooing before going in. They joined up again and mated! It's 6 weeks later than usual, and they're not the only pair who still seem keen. #birds #brisbane #wildoz

I like to think of them as bats. Both out at dusk, and one of their preferred prey items!
