This is it! Hopefully some lessons will be learned from these events. In NZ, we still see massive new pine plantations -- even in places that have burned multiple times in recent years (e.g. Christchurch).

Great to see that National support 30 weeks Paid Parental Leave. Especially after they voted against the introduction of PPL. Blocked the extension to 26 weeks for several years. Canceled 33 pay equity claims. And just this year, cut Best Start payments for the majority of new parents.

Women want pay equity, quality school lunches, decent childcare, affordable housing. All of which National, NZ First & ACT have nixed or made harder during the past 3 years. This is a desperate attempt by National to appeal to the very voters they've spent the past 3 years alienating.

Story paywalled, but key point: People are quibbling re the Greens’ proposed super-rich tax: will it capture 56% of currently untaxed wealth—or as much as 72%? Honestly, either would be great? A policy that achieves roughly 2/3 of what it aims for sounds amazing! www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/...

Offsetting is widely promoted but poorly founded in ecology Our modelling study shows: effective offsetting requires restored areas larger than those impacted & protection over long timescales high habitat conversion rates reduce offsetting success conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
