Do we really need 6 years of environmental review to determine if light rail is good for climate?

Ryan Packer

There's been some concern that this amendment, intended to increase transparency, could actually backfire and add months to the environmental review process for Ballard Link, which is already months behind schedule thanks in large part to Trump's FTA.

Seattle City Councilmember Maritza Rivera doesn’t care about building housing faster

Ryan Packer

"I don't want it to be said that I don't care about building housing faster, I do," Rivera says, really echoing her own comments on the Seattle Transit Measure.

@cmeddielin.bsky.social Thank you for stepping up and taking on a tough but necessary fight for future generations of Seattleites!

0110

Thank you CMs @councilmember-amr.bsky.social , @cmeddielin.bsky.social , and Saka for doing the right thing. Meanwhile the rest of the @council.seattle.gov:

Robert Cruickshank

By a 6-3 vote, the Seattle City Council just voted to reject Mayor Katie Wilson's universal free school meals plan. The Councilmembers who voted yes (against the plan): Hollingsworth, Foster, Rivera, Kettle, Strauss, Juarez. Rinck, Lin, and Saka voted for the plan. A dark, sad day for our kids.

0213

Hey hot take if a kid wants to eat cafeteria food in a school we should probably just give it to them and not ask for papers verifying they are poor enough.

One more vote for @neighborsfornilu.bsky.social and @ronpdavis.bsky.social !

We as a city have to move past our addiction to the idea that programs can’t be universal because someone “undeserving” or “who doesn’t need it” might benefit.

KUOW Public Radio

Seattle’s plan to offer free meals to all public-school students by fall 2026 could be delayed by one year. That’s if the Seattle City Council passes an amendment on Wednesday aimed at prioritizing students with the greatest financial need.

Let’s end the Laurelhurst Community Council’s stranglehold on our city. Show up Tuesday July 28 at city hall or online to support @cmeddielin.bsky.social ‘s bill so we can stop NIMBY’s housing obstruction

Ryan Packer

CM Eddie Lin responds to the attacks in the Seattle Times on the idea of SEPA reform in an op-ed this morning. "Dense housing, walkable neighborhoods, and safe, accessible transit is how we can finally address our affordability crisis and build a more resilient and equitable city."

0142

Love this @mayor.seattle.gov! I agree, Pike Place, Pioneer Square, and Seattle Center prove that walkable spaces and car-free streets bring neighborhoods to life. Let’s bring it to University Way!

Socially pro-transit, fiscally anti-transit

Gordon Padelford

"I don't want people to leave here thinking Councilmember Kettle and I don't support transit" - Councilmember Rivera If you don't want voters to think that, perhaps don't propose slashing the mayor's proposed transit expansion plan 🤷🏻‍♂️. Their amendment fails, 7-2.

0140

Hell yeah thank you CM Foster!

Ryan Packer

CM Dionne Foster speaking in support of the bill: "Cities are an incredibly important element of how we combat climate change." "When I think about this legislation, I see this as an opportunity to have a balance."

040

This is really simple: we shouldn’t force years long environmental reviews for good environmental things like sidewalks, bike lanes, light rail, housing, etc. Do we need 8 years of review to determine if light rail will be good for the climate? No wonder it’s so damn hard for things to get better.

Ryan Packer

It's SEPA all the way down, folks. www.courts.wa.gov/opinions/pdf...

The Seattle Mandatory Housing Affordability Program, like the Patriot Act and Citizens United, has a great name. The fact that our progressive Mayor is trying to reform it and the Laurelhurst Community Council fought tooth and nail to pass it should tell you something about what it actually does:

LCC's Report on City Council’s Affordable Housing And Losing Windermere Circle Affordable HousingThe Laurelhurst Community Club published this information in a recent newsletter: Report on City Council’s Public Comment on MHA – Affor...thelaurelhurstblog.blogspot.comTech 4 Housing

MHA is like taxing farmers during a famine.

Mad? Now it’s actually really important we organize and win this thing.
