Rivera is up first in final remarks. "We need more housing in this city. And we're all trying to grapple with how to get it done faster," she says. She says wishes they could legislate shorter timelines, but says most appeals don't prevail so the current process doesn't need reform.

"I don't want it to be said that I don't care about building housing faster, I do," Rivera says, really echoing her own comments on the Seattle Transit Measure.

”judge me not by my actions but my the platitudes I say before my actions”

Next is Saka. He says Seattle can build more housing without asking the public to "surrender" anything and thinks the bill goes too far. Saka is suggesting he could get behind the idea of raising the filing fee for appeals.

Saka is defending Lin and says attacks on his character need to be rejected.

Debora Juarez says she's a no as well. "I don't believe that appeals are holding up housing production," she says. The council would be taking up Phase 2 of the Comprehensive Plan right now if not for SEPA appeals, and might already have passed it.

She says this legislation is "a solution looking for a problem." She says that if anyone is "misusing" the process, that's the job for the hearing examiner to "weed that out."

she blamed the south end - whose representative is proposing this bill - for not having enough trees for the opposition. has she ever been south of the CBD?

CM Rinck says she's reviewed the SEPA process, and is going through all of the consultants who assembled the Comp Plan EIS and all of the public comments received at that time. She's noting that House our Neighors and the Chamber are on the same side where, which doesn't happen much.

Strauss says people are "talking past each other" and has been disappointed by the conversation about this bill. Doesn't actually explain how he's voting.

CP Hollingsworth calls character attacks on Lin "unfortunate" but says both sides are to blame for bad behavior. She says there are housing reforms that the city could be advancing right now to get housing in the pipeline apart from SEPA reform. She doesn't sound like a yes?

CM Lin is giving final remarks. Rare to have a final speech like this and have no real idea whether this will actually pass.

The final vote: YES: Strauss, Foster, Kettle, Lin, Rinck NO: Saka, Juarez, Rivera, Hollingsworth The bill passes 5-4.

Bob Kettle?!

Ответ для Ryan Packer

What a relief! It was so stressful being out of town and having to wait for this play-by-play over the last few hours

Ответ для Ryan Packer

I didn't see Kettle coming in as a yes

I can not wait to vote Hollingsworth out. Absolutely useless

Ответ для Ryan Packer

Hollingsworth on a Sounders-level losing streak like she's not representing the most progressive district in Seattle 🙄

Ответ для Ryan Packer

Hollingsworth is fucking out next year.

Ответ для Ryan Packer

Bob!

Ответ для Ryan Packer

Hollingsworth, Juarez, and Rivera on the wrong side of every issue

Ответ для Ryan Packer

Hell yea

Ответ для Ryan Packer

Well look at that!

Ответ для Ryan Packer

Her close-out definitely sounded like she's a "no." I initially thought she sounded like a "yes." But especially with the head-pat appreciation of Lin at the end... Not optimistic.

Ответ для Ryan Packer

I find their absolutely atrocious belittling and talking down to councilor Lin while saying the character assassinations are bad pretty frigging incredible.

Ответ для Ryan Packer

I'm struggling to understand what on earth Strauss was trying to say there

Ответ для Ryan Packer

This is such a dishonest take because it's not just the fee, Jennifer Godfrey uses a lawyer to handle these appeals and that's gotta be at least a couple orders of magnitude more expensive than any fee the city could charge.
