Proving once again that municipal government is fundamentally the wrong level for big reforms to make housing abundant. Not to say that local govt doesn’t matter, it matters a lot, but foundational change can only hold at provincial level or above www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Condon makes an incredibly compelling argument for broad upzoning. Why fiddle around parcel by parcel when we can broadly allow housing and unleash years or decades worth of future homes?

Jens von Bergmann

You almost have to feel sorry for him. Numbers totally detached from reality trying to anchor an unhinged arguments put on UBC letterhead in a desperate attempt to establish authority.

I’m actually not against data centres at all but building them in a place where we have to power them with new natural gas generation at ~350 gCO2e/kWh instead of where we have clean power seems like a terrible idea www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

In 2016 BC introduced the owner builder exam. That is, anyone wanting to build their own home would have to pass a completely useless exam that did nothing to improve the quality of their build. No other province requires this. It did do one thing, completely kill people building their own homes

Our home was built by a greedy developer that did it to maximize their own profit It’s lovely and we’re so grateful to have it.

Getting relentlessly downvoted on Reddit for arguing that expanding the stock of affordable housing by buying existing units is a good thing But people don’t care, they’d rather see developers punished than have more affordable housing. Decent policy but gov’t clearly failed to sell it.

With Site C online, better water flow, and some more renewables on the grid, net energy in BC looks better. 6 month average sharply higher and in the green, first time in 3 years But snowpacks are low, we need to continue rapidly adding other renewables to the grid to stay there.
