Okay I gotta hand it to the illustrator on this one for sorta combining Minard's visualization of the loss of troops during Napoleon's Russian invasion with Hokusai's Great Wave off Kanagawa. Figuring out how to combine those in a viz has gotta be a bucket list item for dataviz people.

For real! I often think about how, if not for that conference, I would never have gotten an academic job

That certain conference was the first where I ever heard the term digital humanities, so it was not for nothing!

But it is giving me so much joy at a time when joy is hard to come by, so I figured I'd share. Buy these books! Read them! They are all amazing!!! 7/7

In retrospect it makes sense that, if you go through grad school together, visit the same archives together, attend the same conferences together, etc, the research that you do at those schools and those archives, and present at those conferences, all crystalizes into books at the same time 6/
