Thanks! This was me & @scottwesterfeld. Having to go through and minutely examine every scene and every sentence of The Mortons to decide whether they really needed to be there made us better writers. We'll be doing it to every novel now! #writing

Carol

Interesting tidbit from panel about needing to shorten book by 10% note from editor and they opted to try shortening every sentence versus cutting a scene or scene. Said it helped make the book crisper and was a good note. Partial alt of panel description as old phone and can’t access save button.

This. Also Cunningham is good friends with Britney Griner, a cis woman hooper who, because she's on the masc side, gets questioned every time she goes to use a public women's bathroom. To such an extent Griner no longer users public facilities. Attacks on trans people are attacks on all of us!

Julie DiCaro

If she really wanted to protect girls in sports, she she’d care more about cis male coaches manipulating and abusing young athletes. That’s ACTUALLY a big problem in sports.

Another odd moment occurred when Musk insisted that work in the future would be "optional" because robots would do everything. Musk said people might still work in the future but compared it to people who grow their own backyard tomatoes. He said they could just go to the store for better tomatoes.

Yes! The Mortons got a review in the @nytimes.com! Just of our book! Not a round up of YA or science fiction titles! Apparently we're real writers now! Writing Literachure! Pinch me!

And if you don’t believe me (which, fair), please, just ask The New York monster-stomping Times: www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/b...

Yes, me & Scott Westerfeld have an essay in People magazine hitting the newsstands tomorrow full of sordid secrets about how we wrote #TheMortons. I hope we get the trashiest cover ever. Are there even newsstands any more? Where does one buy a physical magazine these days? I have no idea.

Scott Westerfeld

The Mortons, my book with @larbalestier.bsky.social, is out today! Here's an essay about the process that we wrote for @people.com people.com/the-mortons-...
