after looking into this i must have an older model and i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get at the condenser or filter. the manual is of course no use

clean the condenser, which is not very easy to do. You only have to clean it every 5 loads or so but you also need to get a skinny vacuum attachment to clean inside the 20" deep filter slot.
