Embrace American Gentry Thought www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

American GentryThe jet-setting cosmopolitans of popular imagination exist, but they are far outnumbered by a less exalted and less discussed elite group, one that sits at the pinnacle of America’s local hierarchies.www.theatlantic.comSarah Taber

Most rural areas have a ruling class. And they want cheap unfree workers & to pass their fiefdoms on tax-free forever. It ain't rocket science. The fact that we're scared to talk about THAT, ime, is what's costing us a lot of rural voters!

Great atmosphere, concept, etc. Some serious design issues. Everyone misses the seemingly optional ice arrows in the ice area until two dungeons later when they have to do three hours of backtracking. Do not do this.

The biggest mass American civilian casualty by a human force in American history behind 9/11 is the 1906 Bud Dajo massacre of Filipino muslims, roughly three Wounded Knees at 900 men, women, and children, and effectively no mainlands Americans know it ever even happened.

john hoffman, MN state senator who survived an assassination attempt by vance boelter, who killed mark and melissa hortman, is here supporting omar fateh. he said fateh was his first visitor when he was in hospital. gave him a note saying “we’ll get that fucker” that is still on his fridge

Down to its roots, most fantasy is 'post-apocalyptic', and fantasy that leads with that is fantasy that doesn't understand itself or its audience

Fable concludes that an untrained adult would throw a naan further as there's sufficient membrane tension to stop folding. A baguette javelin would theoretically go further but is too unstable to maintain flight and would start tumbling unless you could add spin-stabilization or fins.

It is a known side effect of transplants and transfusions from direct family. Only someone arrogant enough to flout medical science and "do their own research" wholecloth would fuck that up.

He got an autoimmune disease specifically from taking transfusions from a *direct relative* and his solution to this is to take transfusions from *himself*

The daffy duck + porky pig movie last year had an incredible starting 20 minutes and then went on 90 more sucking the air out of the room the whole time

If you're desal you might want to know where they're dumping the brine, and it definitely begs the question of whether it's desal to manage an aquifer that's already been ruined by seawater intrusion from overpumping, in which case your city is dead and you're fucked no matter who owns you

This is the first time I’ve ever seen a CA publication speak plainly about both the stakes (and the basic distributional politics involved) The FAIR plan is a ticking time bomb and the primary problem is it promises to insure uninsurable property for rich people. www.latimes.com/business/sto...

Californians are subsidizing mansion wildfire insurance as FAIR risk explodesAs commercial insurers have fled California in the wake of wildfires, FAIR has become the insurer of first resort for owners of multimillion-dollar properties in exclusive but fire-prone communities.www.latimes.com

Really most people probably just have a phonotactic objection. "See -sam" is not intuitive and you would have to explain it every other time you used it; the full term is ten syllables instead of the two people use now. Child abuse media? Wider umbrella could be better.

There are CSAM rings created and run by children, so the proper line of argument is just that a child *cannot* consent and anything with the semblance of it is invalid 🤷🏻‍♂️
