We moved from MS Teams to Google (coz OneDrive was unusable), and gosh Gemini inside Chats is such a joke! I asked if it can create Calendar entries, it said yes. I asked it to create one as a test, it said that it can't. It has Haiku 3.5 level of self-awareness, except that Haiku had a soul

My computer just woke me up to tell me it's hungry. I'm not kidding 😂 During a long-running task, it noticed the battery was draining, set the volume to 100% using Computer Use, then opened Google Translate and hit "Listen" so I could hear it asking. Pardon my French, but what the fuck? 🤯

Ahhh you mean it literally for _not code_!!! Gotcha! Apparently this term is also applied to code, and that's the part that's weird :) but you meant communication!!

I don't think we have any chance of becoming first in this, at this point, and in any sense of this word, but not getting completely dependent from other continents and political forces would have been nice!

Yeah the problem is that all communities are based on coercion. It starts pretty voluntary, an exchange for benefits of a membership. But once it starts to be about families rather than individuals, it shifts to shaming, threat of social isolation, psychological and physical violence...

from the next post: > the part that pisses me off is that public sector also bought them and we can’t <use them> as we a) don’t count as a single organization and b) are timid. tldr: IP and copyright suck. We the ppl should demand that Anthropic keeps scanning books, but ALSO releases the scans.

My secret, Cap, is that I'm *always* angry about old books. For instance, here's a tiny slice of the millions of books 1931-1986 that have no commercial value, that are digitized, but that we're unable to use in large-scale research because they are illegal to share or display.

Fable has pioneered what I like to call chartslop (a subset of datavizslop). this example from prompting freeform analysis ("do whatever you like next") when it'd already begun smuggling seafaring metaphors into dry predictive modelling discussion. dazzlingly beautiful, communicates next to nothing

masterclass in the genre of dazzling dataviz slopui. every element screams for attention but none of them manage to convey much of anything with clarity because that's not the point, the point is to give you a visceral impression that a deluge of valuable information is being valuably processed

Totally makes sense but also wow! Hopefully this news will fix the brains a bit, about the costs of customer-facing mistakes when the costs of switching are so low...

Yeah, my rewrite skill literally says "if you're Fable or Opus, spawn a Sonnette agent for that". Older opuses used to be ok, but the new one was nursed by Fable, and learned to talk from her, that's quite clear

I wrote a good document, made Fable retell it "like you would to an agent of yours", then cut it into bad (fable) good (me) pairs with manual explanations of why Fable's versions are bad. Turned it into a skill, asked Sonette (the most sane one in the family) to apply it. It didn't work :(

I thought "vibecoded" is more like a register of coding, analogous to "drafted", "outsourced", or "asked Karl to do it". Like, I'm working with Fable on this thing, but we also vibe-coded that other thing...
