Matt gets it because he’s been in this work for years and @cmeddielin.bsky.social is working hard to fix the bureaucratic mess that is the appeals process. If you’re able please speak up at city council tomorrow (7/28) at 2pm!

Matt Hutchins AIA

Seattle's critical comprehensive plan, a process that so far has taken 5 years, cost millions of dollars, hinges on whether every single person who has a spare $120 to file an appeal is satisfied that every potential, even marginal, impact is fully studied. The EIS was 3047 pages, but not adequate.

Teachers, students, and organizers showed up and showed that universal meals are popular and effective. I’m hopeful this plan will pass and universal meals will start in the fall. Shoutout to all the folks that spoke up yesterday in person and online

Amendment 6 has created this unforced zero sum game where we are fighting over how to feed children. Council needs to vote NO on this amendment so ALL children are fed throughout the school year. See you at City Hall at 9:30am

CHUM News

Ahead of this morning’s City Council vote on funding universal free school meals, CHUM News interviewed educators, students, and nutrition experts. Respondents saw universal meals as a helpful *first* step that can set up other food-access programs for success: www.chum.news/food-fight

“Tewolde is a rising policy superstar, and we’re enthusiastically supporting him …As a current member of the Seattle Planning Commission, we trust that Tewolde will get in the weeds, rather than leaving that indispensable hard work to other legislators. It’s time to send him to Olympia.” Thank you!

This amendment forces families furtherest from privilege to jump through hoops for these necessary meals. Not to mention the stigma too! I’ll be there at 9:30am to oppose this amendment. We promised universal school meals, let’s deliver on that promise!

Erica C. Barnett

Seattle Councilmembers Joy Hollingsworth and Dionne Foster have an amendment to the city's education levy that would postpone spending $3 million on universal school meals—a priority for Mayor Katie Wilson—and instead use that money for meals on weekends and over school breaks for low-income kids.

(1/2) Who would have thought two young men that were raised by mothers who came to America as refugees, worked hard as nursing assistants, and dealt with housing insecurity would be leading in this way. I am honored to receive the endorsement of @girmayzahilay.bsky.social

Why are you running? Are you a viable candidate? How will you win? The answer to those questions lies in the people behind me. The people that hold me accountable and the people that fuel me. I’m honored to be run by the people and for the people of this district.
